Love Yo SELF

Saturday’s SELF Magazine event was wild.

The rain held off, my friends came and did almost EVERY single class and the park was packed.

Lexi, Gable, Policy, Me and E Smith attempting a jump shot. Lex’s Mom was in town from Denver and not only did she take this shot, but she was working out all day along side the ladies like a champ!

I had 0 plans to do the workouts and didn’t even wear a sports bra- but the workouts looked like so much fun that I jumped in and sampled lots of classes. Let me tell you- jumping jacks in a push up are a real blast.

Katie Cassidy was not only doing all the workouts, but of course she looked amazing after. Damn celebs always keep it so tight. Plus- she was really nice and open to shoot some fun stuff with us.

Celebs are robots who always look perfect, and I’m cool with dat.

The girls from Skirt PR not only got the event TONS of press beforehand, but they were on point during as well. A great PR team can make or break the experience…and they were on their game from the moment I arrived until they put me into my Uber to go home.

And of course the entire staff at SELF keep me well prepped and made my job easy…and we had some laughs too. Hail to the V!

Six hours of pep, workouts and talking can really drain a person- who knew right? So after I literally sat on my couch for an hour and zoned out in silence.

But that’s the meaning of a great day of work, right? You gave it so much that silence is enough.

Next weekend come hang with me and Katie Cassidy (from Arrow!) and workout with SELF Magazine in Chicago.

This is a fantastic networking event if your looking to get into health and fitness, plus it’s a ton of fun and an actual workout.

Plus, there’s tons of free stuff and it’s only $20 bucks to get in- no excuses!

See you there?

Last night Nike Chicago threw a huge training club event at Soldier Field.

Around 300 females were on hand to for a 30 min workout with 2 Nike master trainers and a winter weather-inspired fashion show.

And around 100 of us were treated to a VIP experience, where we got to go in the visitor’s locker room and see our names in a locker filled with Nike gear.

Me in my “Zink” locker

Since I was there to interview Kristin Cavallari, our PA Megan Fox took one for the team, geared up and did the killer workout.

How adorable is she?

Two bad ass Nike trainers. That’s Marie Purvis talking in front of her huge poster.

The ladies workin’ hard on Soldier Field

Ok- I admit it- I was a total baby and hung in the warm locker room waiting for Kristin to arrive for our interview!

She was super sweet, and we laughed about the last time we were hanging out…in much different circumstances. Oh- and she looks amazing- but she admits she works out hard to look that way. I also learned that she hasn’t spray tanned since DWTS (inquiring minds wanted to know) and that she loves Armani mascara.

We were asked not to bring up Jay’s condition so I respected that and kept it to fitness, baby and fashion.

Chillin’ post interview. I wish I would have snapped a photo of her custom Bear’s dunks. They were SIIICK.

The entire interview will be up on CelebTV.com later today.

How To Make It Thru A Juice Cleanse

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on July 26, 2012 by kellizink

It feels like every day another person I know kicks off a juice cleanse, and I encourage them to come to me with questions.

I’ve done a few in my day, so I know how to fail and binge sneak eat on day one or successfully sail thru day 5 and into a string bikini in Cabo.
Here are some tips and tricks:

  • Drink the “shake” or #6 bottle in two portions. 1/2 when you are the most hungry (for me it’s lunchtime) and the other half for dinner. I find that I never can finish a bottle at one sitting and it truly keeps me full for a bit during the day.
  • Add ice. Drinking the juices over ice seems to make all the difference for me, perhaps I like them a bit diluted. I also add a pinch of sea salt to the green juices.
  • Take walks. When you feel like you want to give up and eat- take a walk and drink some water. The intense hunger will pass in about 20 mins and the distraction of the walk is sometimes all you need.
  • Accept the fact that you have to pee- a lot.
  • Don’t drink. I did a cleanse and had a few cocktails and trust me, it’s not worth waking up and feeling like hell. It will also sabotage your efforts and lead to a McDonald’s breakfast. Supersized.
  • That depression, hopelessness and sadness is normal. You miss looking forward to planning meals and much of life centers around being social thru food. Remind yourself why you chose to cleanse and remember that you can break bread with your friends lots of other times once it’s over.
  • Embrace the “weird” and own it. Last week I took a lunch meeting with Google while I was juicing. I sat with a few of their staff in their amazing cafeteria and gazed at the salad bars. Just explain you’re juicing like it’s no big deal. These days it’s more accepted and if you don’t make a big show, neither will anyone else.
  • Realize how awesome it is to sleep harder and wake up with a ton of energy.
  • Love the way your clothes fit, and keep getting bigger even the following week after you’ve cleansed.
  • Enjoy being fully hydrated and understanding how oversized our portions actually are.

Hope this helps – happy juicing.

Detox Fail

With so many detoxs and cleanses on the market- sometimes it can be hard to wade thru the B.S.

I recommend people try a solid juice delivery cleanse for their first time- all the work is done for you and you just have to drink.

But some companies take advantage of the fact that a juice cleanse can cost about 150 bucks and they swoop in and trick you into trying their crap.

My friend just got a cleanse on Groupon- for $40. This immediately seemed shady to me, especially since they only include; a huge gallon of “detox drink” and a “meal supplement” drink.

I looked over the flyer that came with her cleanse and wanted to burn it on the spot.

They instructed that you eat as much fruit as you want and each day a new fruit juice is introduced. Day 1 was a photo of MOTTS APPLE JUICE.

Are you kidding me!?! Here- drink and eat just sugar all day for 5 days.

Needless to say- she gave up after one day. Sometimes it’s better to invest in the real deal when it comes to something that is already torture.

Here is the website- avoid it people!

Seaweed With A Kick

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on February 21, 2012 by kellizink

Last night after my Headline News hit, I found myself wandering aimlessly around Trader Joe’s grabbing almost everything that caught my eye including these Wasabi Seaweed Snacks.

Whatever – I was starving.

Anyhow…I’m glad I shopped on an empty stomach because these babies are bad ass. The entire package only contains 60 calories, and the spice from the wasabi covers any of that weird taste seaweed can have. Plus- seaweed is packed with things that are very good for you.

Go run and grab yourself a box.

Dirty Diet

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on January 18, 2012 by kellizink

Yesterday  my co worker Megan Fox (yes, that’s her name) alerted me to Shayne Lamas’s SIICK post baby body.

Shayne was on The Bachelor, had some reality show on E! and is Lorenzo Lamas’s daughter. She’s also married to Nik Richie- the guy who created and runs TheDirty.com.

She just had a kid and looks amazing…so we did some research. Turns out, Shayne posted her diet plan on her blog: LamasRichie.com.

I get asked often by friends what a great diet plan is, and this is pretty spot on. Check it out:

LamasRichie.com:

I schedule 5 meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner with 2 snacks mid-morning and mid-afternoon. No sugar, no bread, no pasta, no white rice, no cereal (except Ezekiel cereal), no soft drinks, no overly sugar based juices.  I keep the same schedule but try and change up the foods daily.  I try and eat every 3 to 4 hours and if I’m in a rush and don’t have time, I just make a shake.  I drink water about 30 minutes before each meal and stay VERY WELL hydrated through the day.  With this diet, the cellan and a daily 4 mile walk (stroll with Press sometimes), I think any woman can do this.

Breakfast
-2 tlbs. Of Ezekiel Cereal
-2 tlbs. Of Organic Oatmeal
-Soy milk
-Blueberries, Raspberries or Honey
Snack 1
-Apple, Trail Mix, Orange, or a Banana
Lunch
-Chicken Breast, Fish, or Turkey
-Brown Rice(1/4 of a cup)
-Lots of Greens with Spinach.
-Fruit Juice
Snack 2
-Unsalted almonds(raw and rosted), sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds(raw and roasted), or dried Cranberries
Dinner
-Chicken Breast, Fish, Turkey (Which ever I did not have for lunch)
-Asparagus, spinach, Greens
-Cottage Cheese and fruit
- Glass of Wine
Supplements I take:
-Fish Oil, 1 with each meal.
-Cellan, 1 soon as I wake up, 1 mid-day and 1 later afternoon.
-Krill Oil, 1 with each snack
-Trans-Resveratrol, 1 with each meal.

Really healthy Shakes/Meal Replacements.
Shake 1 – no more than 2 daily
1)      8-12 oz of Bottled Water and/or Unsweetened Coconut Milk
2)      1/3 of a Banana or 4-8 Blueberries
3)      2/3-1 scoop of Total Body Greens (Berry or Chocolate Flavor – or alternate)
4)      1/2-2/3 scoop of Garden of Life RAW Protein Powder
5)      1/3 scoop of Olympian Lab Pea Protein Powder
6)      1/3 scoop of Nutiva Hemp Protein Powder
7)      1/2 scoop of Gold Standard Natural Whey Protein Powder (Vanilla)
8)      4-6 Ice Cubes
Shake 2 - no more than 1 daily
1)      8-12 oz of Bottled Water and/or Unsweetened Coconut Milk
2)      1/3 of a Banana or 4-8 Blueberries
3)      1 scoop of Total Body Greens (Berry or Chocolate Flavor – or alternate)
4)      1/2 scoop of Garden of Life RAW Protein Powder
5)      1/3 scoop of Olympian Lab Pea Protein Powder
6)      1/3 scoop of Nutiva Hemp Protein Powder
7)      1/3 scoop of Gold Standard Natural Whey Protein Powder (Vanilla)
8)      1/2-2/3 scoop of Gold Standard Casein Protein Powder (Vanilla)
9)      4-6 Ice Cubes

I know this sounds like hell, but it works for me and gets rapid results. Be dedicated LR Ladies.
