Shut Up and Play The Films

Yesterday and this morning have been wild.

8a- CelebTV 4p- Meeting 5p- TV Guide shoot for “Hollywood’s Quickest Marriages” 6:30p- Dinner at Purple Pig 9:30p- Dark Knight Rises at IMAX Midnight- LCD Soundsystem’s “Shut Up and Play The Hits” 3am- sleep 6am- wake up call for Fox 7:55a- Segment 1 8:55- Segment 2.
Dinner at the Pig was amazing per usual. Jimmy Jr snuck us in and he nails every dish time and time again.

The Dark Knight Rises was beyond.

Remember- I’m not a film critic so take what I say at face value. The IMAX theater enhanced all the action scenes, Anne Hathaway was so bad ass as Catwoman and Bain scared the crap out of me.Plus I have a huge thing for Christian Bale- temper and all. Confession- we had to leave before the film was over in order to make it to the midnight showing in time and I heard we missed the best part. I can’t wait to see it again.

Shut Up and Play The Hits was a completely different experience. It was at The Music Box theater which has one theater, little air conditioning and a different set of rules. They have someone intro the films with a mic on stage before and have no issue saying; “We’re not AMC, we’ll kick your ass out” if you’re on the phone or being a jerk.

The film was very insightful and thoughtful and was everything I had hoped it would be. The interview by Chuck Klosterman made me grateful I didn’t get the interview with James. It was so in depth and sounded like a shrink helped him write his questions.

Plus the music. The music. And they way it was shot, almost made you feel like you were at the final MSG show. Nah, I wasn’t there…and that sucks.

I am on 3 hours of sleep right now, but it is worth it. I feel like I was “there” for once, and not just reading about it on social media from bed.

Wavefront

I have some damn talented friends.

This weekend Brandon Carone, Ryan Preuett and Jamie Weil were part of a group that put on Wavefront Music Festival. It was an 3 day long music festival that featured electronic music and DJs and the first annual of it’s kind.

Aside from a glitch with weather, I was shocked at how smoothly things seemed to go for them. And I was impressed with the dedication of the team. They worked in the 90 + degree heat each day with a smile while dealing with all types of media, demanding friends (I fell into both those categories), big spenders and high profile DJs.

Saturday we pulled the boat up to Montrose Harbor and listened from there before heading over later that evening.

Sunday we went back for James Murphy- but he didn’t get to play due to weather issues. Since we were hooked up with a cool pass, we were allowed in while they re built the stages after the storm and we got a great feel for how awesome it was to have a festival on the sandy beach.

We were about 100 feet from James Murphy (who denied my interview request BTW), and my friend Greg Corner who was doing a set at 3pm even offered up half his set so James could play….but by then he had made plans.

Greg still played a sweet half a set before graciously turning it over to another dj who’s set was also bumped and then we walked around for a bit before taking off. From the photos I saw, the place was packed and had some serious energy that night.

Sure, people had complaints too- but if they didn’t then how would they improve for next year? So will there be a next year? We can only hope…

All I Want…is five minuets.

“From now on, I’m someone different. Cuz it’s no fun to be predictably lame.  From now on, let’s do it different.  Cuz I just want what I want.”- All I Want, LCD Soundsystem

LCD Soundsystem is genius. They were around from 2005-2011, then announced that was it…and played a final show at MSG.

Fans are rabid for more, and I am one of them.

How much do I love this band?

James Murphy is playing Wavefront Fest this Sunday (a day I normally spend relaxing and staying far away from people and crowds) in Chicago at 2pm and I’ll go just to watch him spin records.

The Band documented their final show and on July 18th at select theaters around the Country, their film; “Shut Up and Play The Hits” will run. I could only get tickets to the midnight showing, despite the fact I have to be up at 5:30am the following day for TV. There wasn’t a chance I’d miss it or a doubt in my mind that I’d go to see the film.

Another reason I’m a fan? James Murphy isn’t a cheesy artist who does tons of fluff interviews. Plus he has a french bulldog- and we all know how I feel about Frenchies.

I’m waiting to hear if my request is approved, but unfortunately I don’t think it will be.

If it’s not, I’ll respect that too and never stop being a fan of a sound that changed my life forever.
