Lesson learned again…no more tweeting post events.
Last night Shaun and I grabbed an impromptu meal at Sullivan’s Steakhouse before Michigan Avenue Magazine and D Wade’s book party. The crab legs were amazing and the place was packed with all men. Seriously- 90% men. Not that I was looking…
We crossed over to Rockit for the event and I had one goal- to get a little something to talk about on Fox.  I spoke with his PR manager and she gave me a little scoop…but I wanted more. He was up in the VIP in the corner on his phone and I was a bit frustrated that he wasn’t out mingling with the guests.

But when he moved over to sign books, Shaun was excited to buy one so we waited for him to sign “A Father First”.

As we approached the table I said; “Hey we’ve met at one of your events in the past, I’m going to talk about your book on Fox tomorrow…and this is Shaun- he’s a huge fan.”

See noted body guard- one of many

As we went home I expressed how bummed I was that compared to Common, who is always out shaking hands and meeting people, Wade wasn’t as out in the mix.

So I tweeted:

BTW- @DwyaneWade is no @common. Common is a man of the people- while D Wade prefers the VIP.

Then woke up to see he had tweeted back:

Nice 2 meet you 2RT @KelliZink: BTW-l @DwyaneWade is no @common. Common is a man of the people- while D Wade prefers the VIP.

Well then.

Applause to him for taking the high road, but I wasn’t trying to insult his character…just trying to say he wasn’t as approachable.

Needless to say I got a ton of tweets from Wade fans who were not happy with me, so I addressed it on Fox Chicago this morning.

Ok lesson learned- own your 140 characters or someone else will.

Power Of Social Media

Yesterday I had dinner plans. Those changed in an instant when Chef Graham Elliot tweeted out his new menu for Graham Elliot Bistro.

The food sounded amazing and I’m a huge fan of both Chef Graham and Chef Merlin so, I immediately picked up the phone and made a reso.

Before dinner I attended a conference called “The Nature Of Influence” hosted by my friend Chris Mahlmann. It featured 50 of Chicago’s top “influencers” and a panel of experts. I’ll hand it to Chris, he gathered an amazing group and we actually pushed back dinner to stay for the entire event.

But my question to you out there is: What makes someone influential?

Anyhow, I couldn’t help but jump in and ask a few questions during the panel discussion and at one point I was so fired up I had to be nearly restrained*.

The panel was asked something to the extent of ; “What do you see as the most up and coming or relevant social media site or app?”

I was surprised that no one mentioned Instagram, but a few people made great points for Twitter including food blogger Amanda Puck who said that her goal as an influencer is to tweet a photo of food and have people then crave that food- aka go to the restaurant she represents. Which had worked on me with G.E.Bistro earlier.

But back to why I’m still all hot and bothered- A male panelist said;

“I don’t really get that Pintrest thing.”

I couldn’t help myself and shouted- “That’s cause you’re a dude”.

To which he replied along the lines of ; “True, because men like words and women like photos.”

WTF. Is that why Mark Zuckerburg (who is a MALE from what I know) just bought Instagram, a photo driven site, for ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

Oh and BTW, Pintrest was created by Ben Silbermann, also a man.

And even though this guy nearly killed my appetite, I still managed to enjoy the gazpacho, beet/burrata/arugula salad and trout at G.E.Bistro.

remembered to snap a pic half way thru the meal

More than enjoy actually, I loved every bite. The menu’s on vinyl and cool outdoor patio and staff also helped as did getting a chance to catch up with Chef Merlin.

Go. Trust me, just do it. And when you do-Tweet me a pic.

*not really restrained, but it sounds kinda tough no?

Two celebs who’ve helped my career the most are Britney Spears and Charlie Sheen.

2007/2008′s Spears antics got me booked on numerous news networks and put CelebTV.com on the map.

Last night in Chicago- Charlie Sheen gave CelebTV a post show interview at Enclave…the only one.

I’ve been trying to get the attention of Letterman writer Eric Stangel with witty responses to his Tweets for months, but Sunday night he found me as I live Tweeted Sheen’s show.

Stangel even sent me a DM saying:

“thanks for the great sheen updates. i gave you a shout out! keep them coming. best, eric”

I picked up 600 Twitter followers throughout the night- all wanting to follow the life of the “Winning” Sheen.

We were denied an interview at his Enclave club apperance- being told; “He turned down Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone covers- he’s not talking to you!”

We were almost being removed by Enclave security twice. (Thanks to Michelle Molise PR for fighting for our spot)

We were shoved to the end of the red carpet…but luck had it- it was the right end.

Sheen’s goddesses appeared first thru the door we happened to be standing next to- the door celebs NEVER arrive thru. We turned the camera on them and I began to ask them, then Sheen questions.

He was polite, calm and sporting fake gold teeth. He gave us a few answers- but in the world of entertainment news-  even one sound bite is gold.

After I hugged my camera guy (Dave Raven), the night became a blur of hi fives and congrats from my fellow Chicago reporters and photogs.

I made sure to thank Simon Rex and Sheen’s tour manager Joey Scolari (@RadioVendetta) for also talking to us, packed up and left.

On the way out I bumped into E!’s Ken Baker, who I’ve done TV with- but never met in person.

Thanks to Brandon Carone from Enclave and our awesome intern Tori Rose as well.

While I don’t agree with just about anything he’s done lately, after last night’s career high- I’m definitely on Team Tiger Blood.
